IGNOU offers a General MBA course of 2 years and a specialized MBA course in Banking and Finance for 2 years and 6 months.

IGNOU MBA Eligibility Criteria

  • Any person who has graduated from any recognised University in any stream including Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy or Company Secretaryship can apply for the course.
  • The minimum marks attained by the candidate should be 50% for general category students and 45% for reserved category students, as directed by the Government of India.
  • The candidate must clear the online OPENMAT entrance exam which is conducted by the National Testing Agency twice a year.
  • Candidates with an additional professional, managerial or supervisory experience are given preference in the admission procedure.
  • There is no age bar for admission to the IGNOU MBA Program.

IGNOU MBA Fee Structure

The fee for the entire MBA Program is taken course-wise. The total number of courses under the IGNOU MBA Program is 21 and the fee for each course is Rs. 1800. The following table shows the relevant fee structure for the MBA Program:

IGNOU MBA Admission Procedure

The process for securing admission to the MBA Program by IGNOU is simple and involves a small step-by-step process. It is pertinent to note that you can only apply for the course clearing the OPENMAT entrance exam that is conducted by the University. This exam is conducted twice, every year.   

  • If you have cleared the entrance exam then you will receive an invitation to apply for the course. Once you receive the invitation, you can log in to the official website of the University or you can visit the authorized regional centre of the University that is nearest to you.
  • Once you log in to the website, you will be required to buy the prospectus and thereafter, log in by clicking on the ‘New Registration’ option, using your username and password that will be sent to you via email or SMS.
  •  After successfully logging in, you will be required to fill the admission form that is provided by the University.
  • After that, you will be required to attach the relevant documents that are asked for by the University for verification purposes. The following are the documents that will be required:
    • Photocopy of your 10th (HSC) mark-sheet.
    • Photocopy of your 12th (SSC) mark-sheet
    • Photocopy of your Age Proof.
    • Photocopy of any Government identity proof such as Aadhar Card, Driving License, Passport, Pan Card, etc. If none of these identity proofs are available then the candidate will be required to submit any kind of residential proof or Bank Account Statement, whichever is available.
    • Scanned copy of passport size photograph of the candidate.
    • Scanned copy of the candidate’s signature.
    • Scanned copy of Experience Certificate, if any.
    • Scanned copy of BPL Certificate, if applicable.
  • If you are accessing the admission form offline, you can send the required documents to the Regional Centre of the University in their respective cities.
  • After the verification, the confirmation of admission will be received via email or SMS from the University.

IGNOU MBA Evaluation and Examination Pattern

You will be evaluated on the basis of 100 marks out of which 30% is reserved for Continuous Evaluation Assignments and 70% is reserved for the end-term examinations.

Assignments: You will be given graded assignments every semester and will have to complete and submit it to the concerned coordinator on the date provided by the University.

End-term examinations: The term-end examinations are conducted twice a year, after the completion of the semester in the months of June and December.

You will be given the option of appearing for the exams any time of the year that you find feasible. You will have to necessarily submit the examination form and pay the examination fee of Rs. 150 per course before appearing for the exam. The form is available on the official website www.ignou.ac.in.
